I have had a new sponsored child since Lent of this year! His name is Apuro who lives in Bangladesh. He is 8 years old.
When my husband and I decided to adopt a child at St. Mary's, we picked a boy who is older and loves to play cricket. There is a chemistry between us, because I believe that he will become someone who is very capable and help to take care of his family when grandma passed away.
We introduced ourselves as a computer worker and a teacher. Apuro has not heard or seen of a computer. He is an outgoing boy. He writes about his difficulties from family and wants to change the harsh reality! Both of us would love to see how he is changing!
We have never been to Bangladesh. Neither myself be in India. I always imagine myself traveling around the world. However, I never imagine living in the poorest part of the world! Sometimes, we may experience uneasy encounters with differences in culture and religion. However, the fact that the poorest people remain the poorest and most deprived state of health is something that I cannot imagine.
It is challenging to be non-judgmental. Remaining an open heart and mind is a 'skill' to be learned and mastered. Embracing compassion is also a 'skill' that we use to help those who are less fortunate to us. I look forward to writing to him again in September when school starts again!
May Our Lady help us to strengthen our minds and souls to guide those who lead the future!
