Letter to my sweet heart, Charlie!
Dear Charlie,
Mommy loves you dearly and wants to know that you are always the sweetest one in my heart!
Thanks for making my life in Vancouver with loads of fun =)
You came into earth on September 2, 1995. You joined our human family in January 5, 1996. I remember that you were the last goldie sitting in the glass box of Pet Habitat of Brentwood Mall! My mom, dad, and I brought you home when you weighed 33 lbs!!
You went through rigorous obedience training with my mom in 2 basic training classes. In our family history, you have always created lots of funny and heart-breaking memories. For instances, you secretly ate all the salty meat out from the dish of Cauliflower Pork Cutlets that mom cooked in the kitchen. You knew exactly when and where to swipe away the foods on the coffee table and made a permanent sleeping spot on the comfiest mat at home (like my fluffy lamb carpet). You always picked the spot beside my bed to sleep. Say if you wants to sleep in my mom's room, you always picked her side, as opposed to daddy's side.
Your favorite toys are: squeeky hotdog, soother, tennis balls, baseballs, frisbee, tug-o-war kong kong
Your favorite parks are: Wesburn Park, Trout Lake
I think that the funniest thing is that you know exactly where to position yourself in the house, ie. corridor between bedrooms, hallway to the kitchen, middle of the living room. You are big enough to block the path so that everyone walks by to give you bellyrub with their foot.
I also remember that your nextdoor companion, Buddy (the german shepherd), loved to get you out from the backyard gate. Two of you, the buddies-in-crime, went into the backyards of our neigbhors to chase and play hide-and-seek with your families.
You are such a good boy for letting me to clean your ears, your teeth (with buildup tartar), and your paws (with dirt). I cut your nails and tiggle your toes. I love to bathe you in warm water under the rain in the frontyard. Your most favorite part is the blow-dry process with lots of massage and attention (for being clean!!!) =)
The incidences that broke my heart are:
- when you ran away from home without my notice (I had to pick you up from SPCA)
- when you bit the CD rack and pooped on the carpet (while I was at work -- with no Horace, dad, and bro around)
- when you received your surgery in attempt to remove hypothyroid gland (in fact, it is the starting point of developing cancer in the body)
You get picky with foods these days. You only eat sandwich (with white bread for sure!), treats, and cookies. I have to administer Clinicare (liquid care) when you have lost of appetite. Despite of that, I'm very grateful that you keep your joyful spirits coming home everyday -- with a growing lump in your throat.
It breaks my heart that the Vet Hospital has released the results of blood test today.
Your lungs, throat, and liver are affected by the growing malignant cancer cells.
Mommy loves you and wants to let you know that I will always be my best to be there for you and pray that St. Rocco and St. Francis of Assisi are there for you when you find the gateway to heaven in joining my mommy and Pekingnese BeBe!
This is my vow for you, Charlie!
May you find peace and joy in everyday of your life on Earth and Heaven.
I will continue to give you sandwiches, spread the good news and humor that you've brought into my life, and visit the vets who can have a change of heart to realize that lives of animals have a value and encourage other owners with hope and compassion =)
PS. How lovely that you appeared in the photos of UBC CATSO gatherings for BBQ! I really miss the good, old days with you - Charlie!!
